As I stood there staring into space, a full range of emotions flooded my entire soul. I could hardly breath. My heart pounded inside my chest. It seemed to move upward into my throat. I couldn’t believe it. How could this be? My whole world had been shattered. I had just discovered, to my utter disappointment, that Santa Claus was not real. Now this may seem like a gross overreaction, but as a young child, I had never dreamed that anything like this could ever happen. Such a revelation just seemed too much for me to bear.
Everything that I had ever believed, now came into question. How could they have lied to me for so long? How could they? Had it all been a lie? Everything? Could I trust anything that I had been taught? The Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy? What about Jesus? Was he real? Would I find out later that God don’t exist? I mean, I had never seen Him either.
Your experience may not be as dramatic as mine but, have you ever wondered how other children react when they find out their parents have lied to them for years? To say that a “Little White Lie” doesn’t have a long term affect on people is to deny human nature. The sub-conscious is a powerful thing.
Think for a moment, about the last time you found out someone had lied to you. How did you feel? How long did it take you get over it? Have you gotten over it? People should stop lying to their children. Especially people who claim to be Christians. Have people forgotten that lying is a sin?
The Bible says ALL liars will burn in hell fire. (Rev. 21:8) How is it that so many find it so easy to lie? And then make excuses for it. Maybe we have forgotten what lying is. Dictionary.com says lying is saying something that is false or untrue. http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/lying
If it’s not true it’s a lie. If we lie, we are liars. If we are liars, we are in serious danger of hell fire, unless we stop lying and ask God for forgiveness.
How many souls have been lost, how many WILL be lost, simply because of this so-called “harmless” little lie? How many children grow up and reject Jesus, placing him in with fairy tales they knew as a child? How many have been lost because of the Santa lie? There’s no such thing as a white lie, or a little lie. A LIE is a LIE. And it’s a SIN. Think about it.
